Welcome to Safety and Environmental Management

The Safety & Environmental Management (SEM) Department supports the University’s mission by providing training, guidance, and consultation services to all members of the university community on matters related to safety and environmental health. SEM policies are drafted to foster a safe and healthful campus environment and to comply with various regulatory requirements.

The SEM staff works with a network of Safety Coordinators to foster an attitude of safety and environmental awareness within the university community. SEM also serves as a liaison to local, state, and federal regulatory agencies, governing safety and environmental health.


What’s New

New Training:

  • Youth Camp Administrators Training
    • Discusses the risks, policies and procedures for working with youth programs and camps in the University of Maine System.  Anyone that provides oversight for youth camp programs/activities, supervises youth camp staff, or manages youth camp contracts may benefit from this training program
    • To view the Youth Camp Administrator’s training, go to Blackboard > Courses (top of screen) > search “Youth Camp” > hover your cursor over DEP_O_YOUTHCMP and click the down arrow that appears there, click enroll, then submit​, and okay (bottom right). You should be able to access the training from your home screen or courses screen. The Youth Camp Administrators training is broken up into three (3) parts along with documents to help you.  If you have trouble finding the training contact our office at 581-4055.
